The old pictures were created from old 35mm nitrate movie film
photographed by S. B. Chandler in the 1920s. Because this old film is
subject to spontaneous combustion it had to be destroyed. However,
before its destruction 16 mm copies were made along with some copy
negatives from the original nitrate footage. Large display prints were
made by John Welloffman, photographer and artist welloffman.com to
preserve the images. It is from this work that we have added Navajo
scenes from the past.
My initiation to Native American Arts began when I married my
husband, Devon, whose father, S.B. Chandler, was a known collector
of Indian artifacts and collectibles. My next exposure was when I
worked for Husky Hunt one summer as a clerk in his shop, Hunt's Gifts,
Lake Tahoe California. I was not aware of it at the time that Husky and
my father-in-law were friends and had traveled the southwest country
together. This and the exposure to my father-in-law's collection and the
stories about the items spurred my interest and appreciation for the
beauty and craftsmanship created and achieved by the native peoples.
Though, I am trained as an accountant and have worked in the fields of
accounting and teaching my interest in the native arts has never
waned. In 1978, I had the opportunity to purchase a small shop on the
edge of town in Missoula, Montana named the Devil Dancer. Below is
the original logo.
After a couple of years of business it became necessary to relocate my
business. I moved to Front Street in downtown Missoula, where I
operated the shop until 1994 as Chandler Gallery.
Through the years, I have bought from and traded with Native
Americans from many tribes and others developing a large collection of
Southwestern jewelry, Western Fine Art, curios, antiques, and
collectible items. In recent years, I have been marketing some of this
merchandise in various ways. Now in response to customers and
friends, I have opened a website to offer a mix of the same type of items
carried in my gallery in Missoula, specializing in Native American
collectibles, Southwestern jewelry, antique toys, and other collectibles.
Most of my offerings are a one of a kind thing.
I embark on this new enterprise with my husband, Devon, who is the
website administrator and specializes in the repair of Southwestern
jewelry, as he did for the shop in Missoula. In time we will have on line
direct sales for smaller items and will continue to add new and
different merchandise. I will continue to do restringing repair for
necklaces as long as I am able.
Repair: With respect to jewelry repair, because it is difficult to assess
repair needs, requirements, and cost, the following procedure is
established. If an email picture can be sent, great! Send it to:
ann@annscorner.com. We will respond. Alternatively, the item can be
mailed along with a check for $5.00 to cover return postage and
handling. In either a case of we will issue a cost estimate or return the
item as not repairable. After assessing the required work we will
communicate with a report before proceeding. Please, do not forget to
include your name, email address, shipping address, and phone
number.
My prices are intended to be very competitive with retail shops and with
similar items sold at current auctions. Principal items and terms can be
discussed with me. I can be reached by e-mail at >
ann@annscorner.com or by phone at 1-800-991-5040.
